Abandoned Cat in DC - Hit by Car
Donation protected
UPDATE from Kim: "All - we are so grateful for all the love and donations we have received for this cat, who we are calling Everett. I am disheartened to think that someone may have abandoned this cat to the street which resulted in this trauma for him. But, this fundraiser, and all of you, has restored my faith in humanity. Thank you.
Everett has had a rough week. He went for his follow up appointment and we learned that he had developed an abscess under his chin and an infection. As a result of all the discomfort, he was not eating. When a cat does not eat for days, they can develop a fatty liver which can ultimately lead to death. To get him eating again, Everett required a feeding tube which was placed on Thursday. To our surprise, Everett to his first bites of wet cat food the very next day. Yay! Despite these challenges, Everett is the truest of love bugs. Snugglebutt might be his middle name.

We are going to keep the fundraiser open and may increase our number due to the extra medical costs (emergency vet was close to 2k, follow up visit - $500, feeding tube placement - 1k). I also had to buy Everett a carrier and some other cat supplies to make his stay more comfortable with us. He still has a few more medical appointments to come, including removing the wire that is holding his jaw together while it heals."
Hi, my name is Nicole. I received a call on Sunday, May 28th from my friend Kim regarding an injured cat who had made his way into her yard. When I got to Kim's, I saw the cat and my heart broke. He was bleeding everywhere with a bloody tongue and nose, broken jaw, and severely injured eye.
Along with 3 others, we spent several hours trying to catch him. Thankfully he became exhausted and we were able to secure him and bring him to a local emergency vet. He needed surgery to fix his jaw and will need continued care to nurse him back to health. The emergency vet bill was already $2,000 alone (including a generous discount from the animal hospital) and he will need a wire to be removed from his broken jaw, possible reconstruction for a laceration under his chin, as well as close monitoring of his precarious healing process. Future numerous appointments to the vet for his aftercare, along with boarding, food and other essentials, the costs will continue to add up. Our goal is $6,500 to make sure he has the best chance at success.

Kim has agreed to care for this special guy in her home and your support would mean a lot to her. The cat has quickly become a fan favorite, with his incessant purrs and head butts despite his pain. He has been through so much but it is clear he is a lover and fighter! You can check in on "Everett" on Kim's Instagram page @bellabandbuds.

Taking care of cats is a passion of mine. I feed our feral alley cats and assist community members in the DC area with trapping and fixing ferals and any other situations that come up. I am hoping that others can help to cover the cost of this cat's care. I can directly connect you to the veterinarian if that works better. Thank you so much.
