ABACO - HELP People HELPING People
Donation protected
Hello Everyone,
My husband Joe and I are Canadians and have made Abaco our winter home for 16 years now. During this time, we have been blessed to meet so many amazing people and have made so many deep friendships and have shared many good times. Bahamians are such friendly, caring people who have welcomed us as a part of their community and country. When they hurt, we all hurt and the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian will require all of us to help each other. Abaco is our community, our family. We want to help; we need to help. We are working with a network of second homeowners to provide assistance on a more personal level. There are large organizations that do a great job with crisis as an overall but we cut through the red tape and help people immediately with specific needs at each stage of the recovery of Abaco and its people. This is a community in crisis and we need to help them now!!
Our goals;
1) HELP those that are there HELPING others. We know people who are going to the island by boat and plane. They are dropping off supplies going in and evacuating people as they leave. We want to ensure they have the funds to continue this vital lifeline.
2) HELP those on the ground who are HELPING people. We know Bahamians that will be helping people personally. We know that water and food will come as a global humanitarian effort. But individuals will have individual needs and we can reach people personally to help them for whatever their immediate need may be.
3) HELP those HELPING themselves. All communities in Abaco will be greatly affected by the wrath of Hurricane Dorian. Not everyone will have the ability to re-locate elsewhere on a temporary or permanent basis. Those Bahamians left behind will not have access to basic necessities for a long time. Most will not have jobs. They will shoulder the burden of re-building. We want to support them in the re-building of their communities, their lives. We will provide on-going support on an as needed basis whether it be a generator, ensuring access to drinking water, building materials, food, gasoline, access to medical assistance. Specifically, we want to help our neighbouring community of Crossing Rocks so they can remain in their homes and be the back bone of the re-building of Abaco. 100% OF THE FUNDS ARE GOING TO THE BENEFIT OF BAHAMIANS FROM ABACO.
Please HELP us HELP people HELPING people. We are blessed to know and care about the Abaco people. Joining forces, we can make a difference in their lives during this tragic time. Thank you so much for your generousity. 100% of all donations will go directly to relief efforts. We will provide on-going updates showing your money at work.
Disbursement of Funds
In order to direct the funds to the appropriate places, the funds will be paid directly to Connie Caccamo.
1) The funds will then be used to pay the credit card used to purchase supplies that will be shipped to southern Abaco.
2) A wire transfer will be issued to an individual in the US who has been flying from the US to the southern part of Abaco to deliver goods to the community of Crossing Rocks. He will then give cash to a responsible person in Crossing Rocks to purchase fuel for the community. This fuel will keep the generator going for the water treatment system that supplies water to the community. It will also allow a few vehicles to operate so they can drive to Sandy point to pick up the shipped supplies and other items that may be available. Ken and his wife Beth have made 2 trips so far to bring generators, medical supplies, food to Crossing Rocks. To date he has used his own funds and donations from people in the US to fund these trips.
3) To help other individuals who are staying on the island that will need some interim support, funds will be wired to Bahamian friends who lost their home in Abaco but are working out of Nassau to assist many of the lost souls who have lost everything.
