This gofundme page is for Matthew and Karen Holliday. Matthew is a great friend of mine whom I met at the University of Oklahoma several years ago. In August of 2014, Matthew's mom, Karen, was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer (glioblastoma); one of the most aggressive forms of cancer. After undergoing two sucessful surgeries, Karen went completely back to normal, other than minor vision issues.
While she lived a relatively normal life for two years, she still was undergoing aggressive cancer treatment during this time. Due to her determination to stay well, she had very few side effects from the treatments, unlike most people with her same condition. She was eveing to the point of walking two miles daily and continued living a healthy life to increase her odds of beating this awful disease.
In January of 2016, she had a recurrence of the brain tumor, but the spot was so small that she had no symptoms. Additional treatment kept the cancer from growing until September 2016. The tumor began to progress in October, and through November, the cancer began to spread rapidly. In a matter of three or four weeks, she went from having a few very small enhanced spots on her on her brain to having a tumor that encompassed the entire right hemisphere of her brain and was already spreading into the left side of the brain.
As you can imagine, this was devastating news to the Holliday family. The medical bills have stacked up for the Holliay family over the past couple of years, and due to the current state of Karen, they're exponentially growing in 2017. One of the medical treatments Karen is on, an Optune device, is costing the Holliday family $21,000 per month! This is why I wanted to create the gofundme page for the Holliday family.
This gofundme will assist in helping Matthew pay his mom's medical bills and allow Matthew to travel weekly to assist his mom. Matthew is in his last semester at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. The last semester in the meteorology program at OU is very hard, and doesn't allow Matthew to complete the coursework remotely. Thus, he must travel from Oklahoma to South Carolina weekly. This hope of this gofundme is to not only assist in the medical bills of the Holliday family, but to aid in allowing Matthew to travel each week to see his mother as she fights this disease!
Thank you for your time reading this post, and literally every penny helps!
