Aaron's Multiple Sclerosis Fund
Donation protected
On July 17th 2020, Aaron was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This message is from his wife, Sarah Day, telling his story.
Since July 16th, Aaron has been experiencing multiple episodes of spastic paralysis which are interfering with his daily life. He was hospitalized on July 17th and diagnosed with and treated for acute exacerbation of Multiple Sclerosis. In addition to that hospital stay, Aaron is also receiving infusion treatments. We do not yet know if these treatments will ultimately reverse his current symptoms, or simply slow or stop the progression of the disease, but he is receiving the best available treatment for him so that we can prolong what quality of life he has left.
Aaron is only 35 years old, and is currently unable to work. He did not have disability insurance at the time of the diagnosis. We are looking into what is currently available to us.
In the meantime, more than a month's worth of income has been lost, and at least $5000 in medical debt has been accrued.
I, Aaron's wife, am currently a 3rd year medical student. I am unable to work since I am in clinic full-time. My only recourse at this time is to fund-raise in order to make it through the year. We will need at least $5000 to safely see us through December. We will come up with a long term plan and adjust to our new way of life as needed, but for now we are in need of assistance in order to pay the accrued medical bills and pay for our rent, utilities, and other essentials.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been a big help to us, and we would like to give back to them. 10% of all funds raised will be given to the NMSS in January. We are asking friends and family to donate to us directly, since we are in dire need of assistance at this time. However, if you are a stranger or are otherwise uncomfortable with donating to us directly, please consider donating to the NMSS in order to help other individuals diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
If you are unable to donate but would like to support us, we could also use help with things like nutritious meals without preservatives (in order to reduce central nervous system inflammation and reduce the possibility of future MS flares) and basic chores around the house (we are overwhelmed and exhausted and finding it difficult to stay on top of our housekeeping at home). Please contact me through GoFundMe if you are interested in help with chores or meals. Donations are preferred if possible, as I have a couple of places where I can regularly purchase very reasonably priced pre-made nutritious meals, and I am working with the NMSS to set up housekeeping services.
I will be selling baked goods and other food items later in this year, and those donations will also be tracked on GoFundMe. If you are interested in food items and live in the Lubbock or Amarillo area, you can email me also. If I already know you (my maiden name is Sarah Brown) you will likely be hearing from me when I am ready to begin distributing food items (such as pies, cookies, canned apple butter, canned jalapenos, canned chow-chow, other specialty baked items etc). Special request are welcome, and I will accommodate your request if I feel I am able to. December is likely to be my largest distribution month. I will try to have a website to streamline orders.
Thank you for your time and consideration, even if all you can do is keep us in your thoughts at this time.
Sincerely,
Sarah Day
