Hi everyone,
Let me introduce you to my lovely Now husband Aaron . He is a 26 years old with spastic diplegia, cerebral palsy and his big dream is to walk and been pain free and have a better Quality of life
Aaron is a very bright, and inspirational he always wants to inspire and help others we so want to help his Quality of life . We live in Bristol U.K. .
Just a few weeks before are we tied the knot we got wonderful news, that Aaron has been accepted for the SDR surgery with Dr T.S. Park in Children's Hospital in St. Louis, USA.
Unfortunately, Aarons right side of body is affected by spasticity, he cannot walk independently, as he is not able to balance his body. We got hope from Dr T.S. Park, that after SDR surgery, Aaron will have an Significantly improved Quality of life . as his spasticity will be greatly reduced and his posture will improve. Along with his level of comfort and his ability to walk comfortably will also be improved also with being able to exercise more than a 10 minute walk without being exhausted in pain which is a fantastic opportunity for my lovely husband . Aarons has had a very difficult time in his life but always tries to remain positive
he is currently reliant on a wheelchair for any more than a short 5/10 min walk and uses a walking frame Full time SDR will help change this
his sitting and standing will improve and so will his pain
However, there is this life changing SDR surgery.. but it comes at a price, which we are not able to meet as family itself and we are asking for your help to raise funds. We need to bring Aaron to St Louis, USA for the surgery and remain there for almost 5 weeks. On return home Aaron will then need ongoing intense physiotherapy to build up his muscle strength.
Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) is a life changing surgery used to eliminate spasticity (muscle stiffness) in some people with cerebral palsy.
But Aaron needs SDR in America as soon as possible. His spasticity is getting more painful , his muscles are getting more tighter. and he gets muscle spasms them every night so Aaron needs to have the surgery ASAP. But Aaron can't have it done without raising £75,000.
Spasticity has an impact on motor function and quality of life. It can affect gait, cause pain, and contribute to muscle contractures which can lead to deformities. Nerve fibres running from the muscles back to the spinal cord play a major role in maintaining the typical muscle stiffness seen in spasticity. SDR is a surgical procedure performed on these spinal nerve fibres to eliminate levels of spasticity in the legs.
Aaron is always the One trying to inspire others, that no matter what things are always possible and we try to be always support him. We are asking you, help us protect my wonderful husband to be from a wheelchair and permanently be dependent on it . the fact that Aarons would be dependent on other people for the rest of his life with no Independence is sad to us . We cannot lose the chance of his independence and better life. He is a smart and bright young man and deserves the best in life!
