Aaron Schields' Recovery Fund

Aaron Schields, better known as “Dawg” to many of you is a hard working, loyal and treasured friend, family member, neighbor, and teammate. On Friday, July 13, Aaron was rushed by ambulance over three hours from his hometown hospital in northwestern Kansas to Swedish Medical Hospital in Denver, Colorado with severe & excruciating abdominal pain. Over the course of a tense and scary couple of days, we learned that Aaron had contracted a very serious and sometimes fatal staph infection that had spread into his spinal cord and bloodstream.

Under the close supervision of various specialists including infectious disease doctors, Aaron has thankfully made significant improvement and is on the road to recovery. After a long stay in the hospital, we are hopeful he will be able to return home to the farm soon and begin the first rounds of intensive at-home antibiotics via an arm catheter (pic line) to tackle the infection. Unfortunately it will likely be many weeks before he will be cleared to return to work at Schields Farm Supply and resume normal activities.

Timing is everything and this medical emergency struck just as Aaron was transitioning into his new life and starting his family business back in Kansas. Therefore, he was caught without full health insurance to cover the exceptional burden of expense of his ambulance transport, lengthy hospital care and ongoing treatment that could last many months. Between the exorbitant heath care costs and his inability to work, the detrimental financial loss is expected to be beyond staggering.

While Aaron would certainly never ask for help himself, we hope you, his friends and family, will be able to give him a helping hand and the emotional support he needs to ensure this unexpected illness is only a small stepping stone on Aaron’s path to success. We ask for your support for Aaron in any way you are able, whether it be a prayer, a get well card, a hot meal, a phone call, a text of good thoughts and/or financial support. Donations can be made online via GoFundMe and we are working on setting up an account by early next week if you'd prefer to send a personal check.

We will keep you posted on his progress and are incredibly grateful for your love and support for our favorite “dawg”! God Bless!
