Aaron Twitchen: Mr Gay UK Finalist
Hello,
Its me - Stand up comedian/improviser/circus aerialist Aaron Twitchen. Heres a video of me in stand up action at the Edinburgh Fringe
This year, I am adding a new slash to my name... I am a Mr Gay England finalist.
Mr Gay England is a national beauty pageant. I want to use the title to support and campaign for gay rights. Last year, my solo Edinburgh show was inspired by the protests outside of Parkfield school where it was holding "No Outsider" classes - educating primary schoolers about human difference, including same sex marriage.
This competition has a lot of elements - including a written test, congeniality and your classic beauty pageant catwalk (I have some surprises for that, dont worry!). The final element is a charity fundraiser.
I have always been committed to charity work. At Coventry University I was named "Volunteer of the year" for my time sacrifices and was the secretary of our RAG (Raising and giving) society. Now, I work for Anthony Nolan - the blood cancer charity.
This year, the Mr Gay England challenge is raising money for two charities:
The Charlie Cookson Foundation, who provide financial support to the parents of seriously ill children with life limiting conditions which require 24 hour nursing care or specialist nursing facilities. The Foundation also raises awareness of the difficulties faced by parents and carers who care for seriously ill children and strives to improve the quality of life of sick and seriously ill children by providing information, advice and support.
Northern Pride, who proudly promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender culture through public celebration of our heritage and engaging in education and cultural activities that enrich the community, whilst raising awareness of the issues LGBT people face, building mutual respect and working to end discrimination
If you'd like to donate, I'd be super grateful. Anyone who donates £5 or more will receive a thank you pack with some badges (if you leave your email so I can contact you - I'm not a mindreader)
Isn't it time for a Britney loving, circus flying, stand up comedy Queen? I'm ready to take my crown.
