Aaron Leigh Scherr’s Breast Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jessie and I am a cousin of Tony’s (Aaron’s Partner) and one of Aaron’s close friends. I am raising money to help Aaron, 31, continue her fight with breast cancer. Traditional treatments have not been fully successful at stopping this aggressive type, so she is trying alternative treatments along with western medicine practices. This however comes at a large cost as it is not covered by insurance or the government. Aaron’s out of pocket cost will be approximately $1500 per month and we don’t know how long she will need to use naturopath care. Please read Aaron’s story below in her words and if you have $10 or $1000 to donate, every bit will help.

AARON’S STORY

My name is Aaron Scherr, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2021, while I was 22 weeks pregnant with my son. I woke up one morning and felt an excruciating pain in my underarm, which sent me to see my doctor immediately. My doctor discovered a large lump in my underarm. We had also been monitoring a small lump in my breast, which felt like it had grown as well. I was then sent for an ultrasound and mammogram that same day, where the radiologist informed me that it appeared that I may have breast cancer. Due to being pregnant, it was treated as a very urgent matter and within a few hours I was assigned to a high risk obstetrician, and an oncologist. My team worked very quickly, within 2 weeks time I had 2 biopsies done and was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast cancer. A very aggressive form of breast cancer. There was a tumour in my right breast which had spread to the lymph nodes in my right underarm. It was decided that I needed to start treatment immediately. I began chemotherapy, at 22 weeks pregnant. I completed 4 rounds of chemotherapy, delivered my son in January 2022, then continued with 12 more rounds of chemo. Thankfully, my son was born healthy, and was unaffected by the chemo. A few weeks after finishing chemo, I had a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. My surgeon removed both breasts and a few lymph nodes. Scans showed that I responded very well to chemo, however there was one cancerous lymph node left behind. My surgeon quickly went back in to remove the lymph node. I was doing well, and happy that the cancer was gone. The plan moving forward was for me to complete a few weeks of radiation as a preventative measure, in case there were microscopic cancer cells lingering in my body. As I was waiting to begin radiation, I felt new lumps growing along my right breast, again. My team quickly brought me in for an ultrasound and biopsy, and unfortunately, the cancer was back. I had grown numerous masses along my breast and underarm area. It was decided that we would postpone radiation and start me up on chemo again. After doing 2 months of chemo, I could feel that the lumps were not shrinking. My oncologist sent me for new scans, where it was confirmed that the chemotherapy was not working. The cancer had grown, spread to lymph nodes in my mid chest area, and also spread to my right lung. We are now done with chemotherapy and moving onto other options. I will now be starting radiation and will be receiving immunotherapy as well. I have also decided to seek alternative therapy options with a naturopathic doctor. My hope is that the naturopathic therapies in conjunction with the traditional oncology therapies will help kill the cancer for good this time. I continue to be hopeful that I will be able to live a long life with my partner and son. I will never stop fighting for my life, and I thank everyone who has continued to be by my side during this journey.
