Well guys, unfortunately I’m back with bad news that will require some more help from the community for our boy.
In February, Aaron had a clear CT scan. Everything was great. In June, he started getting swelling and pain in his throat and ear which got progressively worse. In July, he got a new CT scan that showed new mass and a necrotized lymph node. In August, it was confirmed that the cancer was back and he had feeding tube surgery. (They put a little port in his belly. I don’t know exactly how it works. I am a bartender, not a doctor.)
This time, the doctors made a treatment plan to throw everything at him including: immunotherapy, surgery, radiation, and possibly chemo.
Today he’s having the following procedures: bilateral neck dissection revision (remove remaining lymph nodes – most were removed in 2025 surgery); tracheostomy creation; tissue rearrangement (removal of mass and tissue surrounding mass); bone graft (from scapula) to reconstruct part of jaw to be removed.
All of these things sound like a death metal band name and are undoubtably not fun.
He will be in the ICU probably three days, but his overall length of hospital stay depends on his condition.
Post surgery he’ll continue his immunotherapy and radiation(and possibly chemo). We aren’t sure how long he’ll be on the feeding tube, but the formula is expensive. We’re unsure of how much physical therapy he’ll need dependent on how much of his tongue is removed in surgery. He will be out of work longer this time, and with even more medical bills than last time on top of losing pay
So, I am once again asking you to help out our buddy. I’m raising the goal of this GoFundMe for that purpose, in hopes that we can get him what he’ll need as he goes through this as we find out more. I don’t know an exact amount but I’ll start with 5k(which is maybe a fraction of his hospital stay) and go up as needed. I would have updated everyone before the day of surgery, but he didn’t want me to post anything until he was knocked out because he doesn’t like accepting things despite being one of the most giving and kindest people alive, so I’ve been waiting for a couple months before I make him mad. That’s what friends are for. ♀️
Thank you so so much for all you’ve given last year and any you may give again this time around. It’s extremely frustrating that the cancer returned in less than a year. I’ll be making updates again as I get them.
