Aaron Barnes Post Accident Recovery and TBI Rehab

Hi, my name is Stephanie Dunlap.  Sheryl Barnes Reynolds (Curt), aka Mrs. Barnes and/or Mrs. Reynolds, is my aunt.

In March, Aaron Micah Barnes, 45 years old, my cousin, and the son of Sheryl Reynolds and Christopher Barnes (Debera) suffered catastrophic injuries in a single vehicle accident.  In addition to the dozens of fractures to his face, sternum, pelvis, and ankle (to name a few), he sustained traumatic brain injury (TBI).

He is totally dependent on public aid. The only insurance available to him provides for 20 days of post hospital skilled nursing and rehabilitation. At minimum, he is facing a year of continued healing and physical/occupational therapy. It could take even longer to return to independence and activities of daily living. His prognosis is very good in that he will survive. In terms of quality of life, his prognosis is quite poor without this much needed rehabilitative care.

Estimates report skilled care with rehabilitation will cost $10,000 to $12,000 per month. Stepped down care is estimated to cost $6,000 to $7,000 per month.  This care provides medication management, wound care, psychiatric care, and physical and occupational therapies to learn to walk, shower, feed himself, write, advocate for himself, etc.

Though they have been by his side since day one, his aging parents are not able to meet these obligations on their own.

For some background, my Aunt Sheryl is retired from work as an admissions director at Fairmont Private Schools in Southern California. Aaron’s dad, Chris, is a disabled Vietnam Veteran. His wife, Debera, serves the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Women's Auxiliary in Nevada. Aaron, himself a lifelong member of the VFW, has supported himself taking construction work.

One hundred percent of your donated funds will be deposited to an account established to pay Aaron’s recovery and rehabilitation expenses. Aaron and his parents are good people. They have suffered deeply. Please pray for provision for Aaron. Please pray for relief from the agonizing pain he endures every day, and pray for total healing. Finally, if you are so moved, please give what you can.
