AAPI Heritage Month with CBHS Asian Student Union
Donation protected
Hi!
We represent the Asian Student Union at Casco Bay High School in Portland, Maine. We have spent the better part of a year and a half researching and learning about Asian American history within our club and recently did a presentation for our Humanities teachers to share what we have learned. We hope the presentation was an opportunity to highlight places in our curriculum where our teachers could include more AAPI history and leaders.
In the spirit of learning with our teachers, we are fundraising to purchase a copy of four books for each of our Humanities teachers and an additional copy for our school library. Local scholars and leaders have recommended these four titles. We plan to purchase these texts at a local bookstore, Nonesuch Books in South Portland, which has quoted us just under $900.
The four books are:
The Making of Asian America: A History, by Erika Lee
Asian-American Dreams: The Emergence of an American People, by Helen Zia
The Displaced: Refugee Writers on Refugee Lives, by Viet Thanh Nguyen
Minor Feelings by Cathy Park Hong
We'd appreciate any donation you might be willing to contribute! Any amount that is over what we need will be used to buy AAPI-authored works of fiction for our library.
Sincerely,
CBHS Asian Student Union
