Dear elders and fellow countrymen,

My name is Boyqara Kohkan, son of Mohammad Alem Kohkan, and I live in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA.

I am sixteen years old, and today, with a heavy heart, I wish to share the burden of my sorrow with you.

My father, Mohammad Alem Kohkan, a well-known figure in the fields of journalism, culture, and contemporary literature of Afghanistan, had been battling a severe form of cancer for nearly a year. Today, with all its bitterness, he left us forever, depriving us of the sweetness of a father’s love and care.

My father’s last wish was to be laid to rest in his motherland—the very soil for which he fought with his pen for many years. Unfortunately, due to our financial hardship, I cannot fulfill this wish on my own. Therefore, with the utmost humility, I kindly ask for your support and assistance.

During his lifetime, I was not able to do much for him. But now, for the very first time, I want to do something meaningful by taking his lifeless body back to the embrace of his homeland.

سلام به بزرگان و وطنداران عزیز،

بنده بایقرا کوهکن، فرزند محمد عالم کوهکن، باشنده اسپرنگفیلد ایالت مساچوست آمریکا هستم.

شانزده سال دارم و امروز با قلبی شکسته می‌خواهم اندوه و بار سنگین شانه‌هایم را با شما در میان بگذارم.

پدرم، محمد عالم کوهکن، از چهره‌های شناخته‌شده در عرصه ژورنالیزم، فرهنگ و ادبیات معاصر افغانستان، نزدیک به یک‌سال با بیماری صعب‌العلاج سرطان دست و پنجه نرم کرد و امروز با همه تلخی‌هایش ما را برای همیشه تنها گذاشت و ما را از مهر و محبت پدرانه محروم ساخت.

وصیت پدرم این بود که در خاک مادری‌اش ــ همان خاکی که سال‌ها برای آن با قلمش جنگید ــ آرام گیرد.

اما متأسفانه به دلیل ناتوانی مالی خانواده، به‌تنهایی از عهده این کار برنمی‌آیم. از همین رو، با تمام فروتنی از شما بزرگواران می‌خواهم در این راه یار و مددگارم باشید.

در زمان حیاتش، نتوانستم کاری در شأنش انجام دهم، اما امروز می‌خواهم برای نخستین بار، با رساندن پیکر بی‌روحش به آغوش وطن، بخشی از دینم را ادا کنم.
