Lowell’s Recovery

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I’m Lowell’s big brother Roman sharing this on behalf of Lowell and our family.

Early morning on 11/10 Lowell was driving home after working a double shift as mental health practitioner when he fell asleep and lost control of his car. He hit a tree and thankfully someone called 911. EMS arrived and used the jaws of life to cut him from the car. He has severe injuries to the intestines and colon likely from the seat belt while sustaining life threatening damage to his internal organs resulting severe internal bleeding.

Lowell is currently in the ICU at Mercy Hospital and is intubated. His injuries include:

Severed intestine from stomach and colon, he had emergency surgery to remove 18 inches of his intestine. His colon and intestine remain disconnected from his body until such time that doctor are comfortable performing surgery.

He sustained severe internal bleeding including blood in his stomach and torso. He received 2.5 times his total blood volume via transfusion and was still receiving blood products.

He has broken ribs, his right lung is not functioning, hip fracture, fractured big toe, and a right shoulder injury. They are monitoring the shoulder for potential vascular damage.

His blood pressure has been up and down most of the day, and he has a central line in to provide medications including some to help keep his blood pressure up. We would like to see his blood pressure stabilize before they attempt to reattach some of his GI tract tomorrow.

By this evening he was able to offer an occasional gentle squeeze a couple of times to our hands so we know he can hear our words of love and encouragement.

Thank you to the many of who you who have reached out to our family, and to everyone who came to the hospital today. We know this will be a long road, and we are incredible thankful for your love and support and know Lowell would be touched by your kind words. He will be unable to work for months and require serious treatment, medical care, rehabilitation, and many different kinds of support and accommodations we can’t even begin to imagine. We are starting this gofund me to ease the financial burden on them and our family, we will adjust the goal as we learn more to make sure it is accurate to their needs.

We will update more when we can and as more details are available. You can follow updates and share comments at https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/lowellfeldhahn
