Fund my medical transition

Hiya, my name’s Emily and I’m a 24 year old trans woman. I came out as trans in 2019, and officially started identifying as a trans woman in 2020 when I changed my name. I have been on the NHS waiting list for my local gender clinic for 5 years (since July 2019). Recently however, I received the news that I’ll likely have to continue waiting until at least 2030. That’s 6 years from now. That is the waiting time to begin discussing the possibility of starting hormones, and there is currently no time scale after that for when I’ll actually start medically transitioning.

I cannot begin to describe how empty I felt after hearing that news. I have been patiently waiting for half a decade, only to be told to continue waiting for an even longer amount of time. I’m at the edge of my patience; my motivation to carry on is at an all time low; and I genuinely don’t know what to do. So this is what I’m turning to. I have decided to go private for my medical transition, which is quicker, but also a hell of a lot more expensive. I don’t have that kind of money to fund the path I have decided to take however. I am going to save as much as I can, and my family have pledged to help out in any way they can. But I don’t think it’ll be enough.

Never in a million years did I want to do this. I never ask for help from anyone, nor do I like doing it. I actually hate asking for help, especially financially. But this is my only option. I ask you, my friends, family, and acquaintances, for your help. Some of you I may not have seen since school, university, or old jobs, so I understand that this is a lot to ask. But even if you could spare £1, I would be eternally grateful. And if you can’t, just sharing this around would mean the absolute world to me.

I set the initial goal as £100 because honestly, I don’t know how much I’ll need. However, I will continue raising it depending on how much we raise. At this point, any amount of money I could get would be such an immense help.
