I am Aaditya Reddy, a Life scout of Troop 115 of Short Hills and a high schooler at Morristown Beard School. I am aiming to raise money to create two Bee Hotels, which are similar to apiaries but are intended for native bees. While it is a well-known fact that all types of bees are struggling to survive, what many people gloss over is that native bees are disproportionately affected by changes in the environment since they cannot produce honey, and are therefore not kept commercially. These new Bee Hotels that will be installed in the Frelinghuysen arboretum and the Essex County Environmental Center will allow native bees a place to lay eggs and hatch offspring, in hopes of providing a habitat for these essential pollinators.
