AAC Board Installation for Inclusive Playgrounds

Donation protected
We are raising funds to support the creation and installation of an All-Weather Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) Board at local elementary school playgrounds to facilitate communication and engagement for children with complex communication needs.

We are thrilled to share that local principals and the superintendent of the district are in agreement that this project is necessary!

This initiative will be spearheaded by undergraduate students in our Teacher Education program, fostering inclusivity and collaboration within our academic community.

At this point in our project, Teacher Education students are receiving training and licenses for Lesson Pix in the month of October. This program allows for educators and related service providers to create visuals representative for their unique student population.

Students will present their suggestions for the AAC board design to the principal, educators, and related service providers by the end of October.

Students will travel to local elementary schools to discuss appropriate installation with principals, educators, and service providers in November. The intent is to install by the end of 2023 - weather permitting.

Benefits of this Project Include...

Enhanced Communication: The AAC Board will facilitate improved communication skills and language development for children with complex communication needs, fostering self-expression and confidence.

Inclusive Play Environments: The installation of the AAC Board will promote inclusive play by ensuring that all children, regardless of their communication abilities, can actively participate and engage with their peers.

Academic Growth: The project will provide undergraduate students in our Teacher Education program with hands-on experience in designing and implementing innovative solutions to support diverse learners, enhancing their educational and professional development.

Community Involvement: Collaboration with local elementary schools and community stakeholders will establish a sense of ownership and shared responsibility for creating an inclusive and accessible educational environment
