Fund George Zander's star in PS

Dec 19 Update:  The goal has been reached!  What  amazing, kind and generous friends and supporters George had.  Palm Springs Mayor Rob Moon has personally rounded up a final donation from the very generous friend of George's, Harold Matzner.  This has been an amazing experience, and truly, an honor.  Thank you, each and everyone who has contributed, supported or simply just encouraged the effort.

Updated:  To acknowledge the first goal has been achieved and the application process has begun!  To complete the funding, an additional $5,000 (plus 10% in gofundme and WePay fees for non-cash donations) for a grand total of $10,000 (again, plus 10% fees).  Thank you each and every one for helping to making a long-lasting, significant tribute to our advocate, mentor, friend in the town he so beloved:  Palm Springs.

George Zander was a long-time advocate for rights and campaigned tirelessly for fairness and equality all of his life.  He and his partner Chris were assaulted walking home from watching a game at their favorite bar, and sadly, George died while still undergoing rehabilitation.

Courtesy of our local paper:  "The LGBT community, the city of Palm Springs and the world lost a friend and champion Thursday with the death of George Zander."

His early work took him to the Peace Corps and then later Seattle where he honed his advocacy skills and then brought him to Palm Springs where he worked for AAA Travel for many years before retiring, then as an advocate for Sen. Barbara Boxer and later heading the local Equality California office.

Our community and indeed the world has lost a hero.  And he loved Palm Springs and the desert.  This GoFundMe is to raise $5,000 (plus 10%) to complete the application to have a star placed in his name on the "Palm Springs Walk of Stars" and when the application is approved, $5,000 (plus 10%) more will be needed for a total of $10,000 (plus 10% for fees).  When the application is submitted, since "The Palm Springs Walk of Stars" is a 501(c)3 corporation, your donation becomes deductible.  Any funds raised in excess of the direct costs will be donated to a charity selected by his husband, Chris Zander and in the event the $5,000 goal to complete the application is not achieved, all monies will be returned to you (less the necessary haircut taken by GoFundMe).  When the application is submitted, since "The Palm Springs Walk of Stars" is a 501(c)3 corporation, your donation becomes deductible.

Please help us raise the funds to memorialize and commemorate a truly outstanding person and humanitarian, a loving husband and constant champion for all.
