I am raising funds for tuition to continue my education at Chamberlain University College of Nursing. These donations will be going to tuition, books and housing. I will be returning to school for the next term which begins July 6. I will be in the program for the next 2 years to receive my Bachelors in Nursing. I didn't always want to be a Nurse. The calling came later in life. I am in my 30's and I have been working as a Nurse Assistant for 3 years. I have sought funding from multiple sources but I keep getting rejected due to lack of cosigner. This funding is paramount especially since there will be a point in this program when I will be unable to work because I will be in clinicals 4 days a week.
My early attempts in pursuing education did not go as planned. I attended a community college in my home state for a year straight out of high school. Then six years ago I got serious about my life and my future. I attended an accelerated program to receive an Associates of Applied Science in Health Information Technology at Westwood College. I worked so hard and graduated with honors. Unfortunately the school was not accredited, closed shortly after I graduated and I was unable to get a job in my field. Half a dozen of those classes I have to re-take because the credits aren't being accepted.
This is not a journey that I can get through alone. My co-workers had the support of their parents or a spouse during nursing school. I have neither; it's just me. I work 12 hours shifts at a very busy hospital downtown. I have 13 patients at a time and float to multiple units, and sometimes work more than one unit in a shift; Surgery, ICU, Emergency Department, Psychiatry, Oncology, Cardiac, Neurology and of course most recently I have been caring for COVID-19 patients. Despite being on the frontlines I am not receiving the benefits I deserve. As a nurse assistant, I am not receiving hazard pay or bonus pay of any kind.
I would really appreciate your assistance because I am passionate about helping others and I love science!
I will provide regular updates to all donors.
