As many of you are aware, Gerry broke his neck this past September 6th while enjoying Labor Day with his family. He belly flopped into our pool and immediately began drowning before I jumped in to hold his body in the water while waiting for the paramedics to arrive. The break in his neck has left him paralyzed from his nipples down. Gerrys C5 and C6 were crushed which caused a concussion to the spinal cord and the surgeon had to rebuild his neck to make room for his spinal cord. Gerry spent 26 days in the hospital (21 of which he was ICU and 5 of those days he was sedated after the surgery due to the damage of his neck) and then he was released to HealthSouth Rehab in Tustin where he spent 30 days and was then discharged and sent to Care Meridian in Garden Grove where he spent another 30 days before insurance pushed pushed him out. You can imagine the financial and emotional strain this has caused. We have remained optimistic that he will regain strength and movement with extensive physical therapy. However, he has been home for 3 months now and has only had 6 physical therapy sessions even though we were told insurance would cover 100 days. Dealing with the insurance company has been a nightmare. The surgeon said that he felt Gerry could walk again but would need extensive therapy. The top facility that is recommended  for him is in Pomona called Casa Colina.

I am here today, asking for any help you could possibly give. We need help with transportation, getting a van to get Gerry to physical therapy and help with paying for the therapy out of our pocket. We are looking at spending over $180,000 between a van and therapy this year. Its is crucial he receives this thearpy immediately because whatever progress he makes now is so important to his recovery. Wherever he is at phycially in two years, will be as far as he will come. 

Gerry has a heart of gold and deserves any chance he can get at walking again. His (and our) entire world changed over night. The impact that has had on us is substantial.
