Juan was stopped by a police officer for an expired inspection sticker and was then handed over to ICE, despite having an active U.S. residency application currently under review. He informed the ICE agents of this and provided proof, but it was disregarded. Instead, they attempted to pressure him into signing his own deportation to Guatemala.

My brother has no criminal record and no warrants for his arrest. He has lived in the United States for nearly 25 years and has worked tirelessly to build a good life for himself and his family. Juan is the sole provider for his wife, children, and granddaughter, and his detention has devastated our entire family—both emotionally and financially.

One immigration lawyer we are in communication with has estimated legal fees at $6.500 but our family is still in discussion with a federal attorney as well to ensure my brother's case gets the appropriate due process.
