Keep Grady Rolling

On April 7, 2002 after a Sunday afternoon of fishing Jason Grady’s life changed forever.  “Grady” as everyone affectionately knows him, was involved in a car accident that left him a quadriplegic.   He was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville and then went on to spend three months in rehabilitation at the Shepard Center in Atlanta.  At the age of 26 most young men are finishing college, beginning careers and starting families.  Grady’s challenges were much bigger.  He was learning how to live with only the movement of his head.  Grady’s attitude was positive and with his faith in God and the help of his parents, Dennis Grady and Beverly Walker and a multitude of friends, Grady has accomplished much more than anyone ever dreamed in the 13 years that followed that day.

Grady has always said, “I could have died that day.  God gave me a second chance and I am going to do something with it.”  Grady got to work.  He worked in contract sales with Mackey Lumber and also in procurement and sales with FM Guess but he decided to make finishing college his goal.  In the fall of 2010 Grady enrolled in Valdosta State University.  After two years at VSU, Grady decided to transfer to the University of Georgia to finish his degree.  Grady enrolled in UGA the fall of 2013.  He did not let knowing no one in Athens, being  15years older than his classmates and being away from his family and friends stop him.  Grady graduated from the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural and Applied Economics in May 2015.  The College of Agriculture created the “Inspirational Student Award” in his honor and presented it to him on graduation weekend.  Grady is an inspiration to us all.  He is always willing to listen and help where he can.  He is a great friend to many.  He needs our help!

After graduation Grady moved back to Valdosta and is currently looking for a job.  As this new chapter of his life begins he faces another challenge.  His van is a 2002 model and has almost 200,000 miles on it.  Grady needs a new van.  He has priced several vans and is confident he can get what he needs with $60,000.  He already has $20,000 pledged toward it.  “Keep Grady Rolling” is a campaign aimed at raising the remaining $40,000 toward purchasing a new van for Grady.  The holidays are a time to reflect and thank God for all the blessings in life.  Grady considers his friends and family his biggest blessing.  Please help us “Keep Grady Rolling” and donate what you can.  If 400 people gave $100 we could have Grady rolling by Christmas.  Our goal is to have a new van for Grady for the New Year.  Please forward to all your contacts.  Thank you!
