We are the Beast Builders!
We are an all-girl team of fourth and fifth graders from Chino Hills, California.
What is Odyssey of the Mind?
Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving competition that harnesses the power of teamwork, creativity, and out of the box thinking to challenge young minds. In the process of solving the various problems, participants gain incredible interdisciplinary skills--everything from working with power tools, to comedy improv, or to building a vehicle out of salvaged materials.
This year, our team of seven chose to tackle Problem 1, Omer to the Rescue, Again. In this problem, they were tasked to create a drivable vehicle that could be completely assembled, dis-assembled and re-assembled again during the performance. The vehicle would also need 3 custom made gadgets (think Batmobile) to help with 3 heroic rescues. All of this goodness had to fit in just two suitcases.
These kids have been hard at work since October, and through tons of hard work, perseverance, and even a few tears, they were able to win 1st place at the Inland Empire Odyssey of the Mind Regionals. Two weeks later, they placed 2nd at the SoCal Odyssey State Tournament, which earned them a trip to compete with teams all over the world at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Michigan.
Why We Need Your Help!
After placing in the State competition, we are headed to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Michigan State University from May 22-25. It's our first time going to World Finals, so we were shocked to find out it would cost more than $15,000 in flights, rooms, and transportation. We will be holding fundraisers in the meantime, but we hope to offset some of these costs with help from our generous friends and family.
We are so proud of the creativity, tenacity, and scrappiness of this amazing team of young women, and we hope they can go to World Finals and represent our community!
Thank you for your help and please help us spread the word!
