So, Kelly was getting an MRI for an unrelated issue entirely, and lo and behold, they find a 13mm brain aneruysm in the left temporal lobe...Well, that's not supposed to be there! And needs to be repaired asap!
What does that mean you ask? Brain surgery... Ack!! Because of the position of the aneurysm and the number of arteries and pathways it includes, the endovascular procedure is not a safe option. SO, that means removing a portion of her skull, entering the brain and clipping it so it won't rupture. She'll have to spend the first 24 hours in the ICU and then a few more days in hospital. The kicker is, it's a 3 month recovery! No working, no driving, and lots of bed rest.
Kelly owns a dog walking business and is also an adjunct professor at two schools. Her physical activity is going to be limited, so no walking dogs, no standing up to lecture, and her brains need the rest...Luckily it will be during summer break and she should be set to return in the fall!! Yay!
So why GoFundMe, you may ask?? Being a small buisness owner has its advantages and perks...but if you're not doing the work, there's no income. And as adjunct faculty, there are almost zero perks, like paid medical leave. Although Kelly is very healthy at the moment, leaving this size of aneruysm is dangerous. A ruptured aneurysm can often result in death or major deficits.
The money we are hoping to raise will help her through the 3 months she will not be able to work. Rent, food, bills, etc..
I have been friends with Kelly since (gulp) 1986...that's a LONG time! She is my best friend and someone I cherish deeply. Those of you that know her know what she brings to this life...witty remarks, a contagious and joyous laughter, a passion for all the critters of this world and a devotion to education. We have been through many experiences together, big, small and the so-so. Most importantly, we have shared much laughter!
