Hi, my name is Nic.
Most likely you know me but you may not know whats happened over the last few years, So.....
In the middle of 2020 I had gone in for a physical and blood test, the next morning at 6 am I was awoken to the police at my front door, they were performing a wellness check on me with a note from my doctor saying to go to the emergency room NOW. I had to be hospitalized because my platlet count was around 4(an average person is around 250). While there I found out I had Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(basically my immune system attacks my platlets which means I could bleed out if I had a cut or have severe internal bleeding).
Over the next yearish I was getting a shot once a week and my platlets were fairly steady. In late 2021 my platlet count started to decline slowly. In 2022 I was hospitalized again for low platlet counts(I was at a 2 this time). At this point I went out on medical leave from my job of almost 10 years where i was the Supervisor for a day program for adults with intellectual disabilities(which was hard really hard for me, i loved my job), I started getting horrible panic attacks and anxiety all the time. Then we discovered the weekly shots were no longer working and needed to look for new medications. There was an option to try doing a sort of chemo therapy that would basically "restart" my immune system and hopefully make it not attack my platelets. This is the option I tried. It left me feeling awful and had basically no effect on my immune system, it just effected my body. I ended up having to have a platlet transfusion when my platlets dropped below 10 for the third time.
During all of this I had started to gain a large amount of weight and my activity levels dropped significantly(I used to be a very active person). I also found out i am in the begining stages of cirrhosis of the liver(because of my weight gain). In 2023 I switched to a new primary doctor and started a new medication for my ITP, my platlets have been fairly steady for the last few months finally(over 100). But my body and mind have still not recovered.
I have currently started the first steps to do a gastric bypass next year(my doctors want me to do it, to loose weight fast), I have started using a walker and a cane so that I can walk more and get exercise. I am working at trying to heal myself. There is a lot of steps moving forward and it isn't going to be easy but luckily I have my Mom and Brandi to support me and plenty of encouragement from my friends who I have shared this info with.
I have been unable to work for about 2 years now, I am no longer able to get disability and our savings have run out. I hate asking for help, normally I am the one helping others but I am seeking some help with rent for the next few months and paying some of my medical bills off.
Anything you can donate would be a huge help. Thank you so much.
