Support a Family in Crisis - Avoid Eviction
Donation protected
We're a three-generational household (my mom, myself, my two boys, and our pets) who need to come up with a deposit of $2,850 in order to move into an apartment by January 20, 2025. The landlord has been very patient with us, but time is running out.
My kids and I have been staying with my mom in her senior apartment after a housing crisis in August. We'd moved in with a middle-aged couple we didn't know but who were renting out two rooms, and it fell apart when the couple got violent and threatened to kill my sweet, well-mannered dog in front of my kids. The man had already thrown things at my dog and made verbal threats toward us. After less than a week, we had to ask the cops to escort us to my car. My mom was kind enough to take us in, knowing it wouldn't bode well for her in a senior apartment.
If we don't leave by the 20th, my mom will be evicted. I do not want her having an eviction on her record, especially because of me. She could stay, but we'd still have to leave, and we'll be sleeping in my car if no shelter has room. That's not feasible for us. Especially not when we have a landlord willing to rent to us if we can produce the deposit. The apartment is spacious and beautiful, and I'm already in love with it. I'd want to call it home for years.
DHHS has been jerking us around with the SER request we submitted in December. We're working with a social worker at Senior Neighbors, and she has helped us calculate our expenses, apply for assistance, and get things lined up. But we're running out of time.
Any donation - even $5 - would make a big difference. The more we can give the landlord by the 20th, the better. This amount does not include the cost of a U-Haul or anything. Just the deposit itself, which is my biggest concern. All of us are incredibly grateful for any help we get - and for the help we've already been given by some amazing individuals.
