The Schroeder family
Donation protected
On July 21st, Chelsey and Bryan welcomed Reid Carl Schroeder into their family. He weighed 7lbs 6.9oz. Upon delivery, Reid required help from a CPAP due to breathing struggles and was transferred to the NICU. After the CPAP was removed, it was discovered that he had many features concerning for Trisomy 21 (Downs syndrome), which was later confirmed with a FISH test.
After further evaluation, it was determined that Reid has aortic coarctation, VSD (hole in his heart), and a bicuspid aortic valve. All heart issues that are related to Trisomy 21. Reid was transferred to Children's hospital in Aurora, CO by ambulance for further evaluation and a plan of action.
Reid is scheduled to have heart surgery on July 26th for aortic arch reconstruction, ASD closure, and VSC closure. It's estimated to be a 4 hour surgery, with a recovery time of a few weeks in the Cardiac ICU at Children's hospital before being allowed to go home.
In the coming days, weeks, months, and years, Bryan and Chelsey will be giving all their time and energy to their sweet boys. With Reid's current hospital stay and future medical treatment, the last thing they should have to worry about is financial expenses. Any money donated will help with: hospital bills, hotel stays, food, gas (travel between home and Children's), and time missed from work. Thank you for supporting the Schroeder family during this time. Baby Reid is so loved and any support received as they navigate this new journey is more than appreciated.
