Woof woof

Hello my name is Archie, I have been having a tough time during the past 12 months and costing my mum and dad an arm and a leg (no pun intended!). I want to raise some funds towards my cancer treatment as I have been diagnosed with osteosarcoma which is an aggressive bone cancer.

My story: I am a 7 year old greyhound, bred for racing in Ireland. I did not meet the grade for racing (I'm a bit lazy) and was written off by my owners. Luckily, I was rescued by Bristol DAWG (a registered charity) who found my 'furever' home with mum and dad in 2019.

In January 2024, I broke my front leg whilst running with my sister Liberty. I think I caught my paw in a rabbit hole and snapped my ulna and radius bones. I had to have 3 metal plates inserted in my leg to enable the bones too fuse and grow so that I could walk again.

1 year later, I suffered a vascular event (a kind of neurological human stroke). Mum found me splayed on the floor unable to get up. Mum helped me up but found that I was leaning to one side and very unsteady and confused. Off I went to the emergency vet at Langfords who monitored and looked after me in hospital. Whilst I was there, they discovered that I was a bit lame. I made a speedy recovery from the vascular event but was sent to Rowe vet to see what was causing my limp. I had an xray and the vet discovered the aggressive cancer which was eating away the bone in my leg.

I have been referred to the cancer specialist with the outcome being chemotherapy and amputation of my front leg. Whilst waiting for the chemotherapy I fell and fractured my leg so the vet recommended that the best option was to amputate the leg urgently to alleviate my pain and then start chemotherapy. The only other option was euthanasia.

My costs this year for the vascular event, various xrays, amputation of my leg, various medications (gabapentin, onsior, pardale, cerenia, diatabs and fortiflora are in excess of £7,900 and I have the chemotherapy cost of £7,800 making a total estimate of £15,700. My insurance has covered around £5,700 which leaves £10,000 of unexpected costs for mum and dad.

If you would like to help i would be truly grateful.

I am doing really well on my 3 legs and I am so happy to still be here enjoying life.
