Hi! I am Alyssa and my sister is Lindsay. She is my best friend and someone I am so lucky to have in my life. She is a senior in high school and has gone down a very tough road in her life. Lindsay was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2nd grade. Our friends and family know our story, but I wanted others to know her story and also make awareness of Crohn's Disease and how serious the disease is.
Lindsay was born in May and she was beautiful. As she was growing, she could not keep any food down and this was the start of her very, long journey. She lost weight due to not being able to keep her food down and was so malnourished that we almost lost her. For my family, it was so tough to see such a small little baby go through so much. We found great health care, but she still was not deemed as healthy.
In Elementary School, Lindsay was sick most of her time in school which for anyone who has their own kids, this was tough for her- not being able to come to school and being like a regular kid-worrying only about friends and playing. She was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and was put on strong medicines that caused her to have many different side effects.
We have gone through many different surgeries, sicknesses that have left her, at one time, in the hospital for two months. She has had a lot of disappointments with medicines and other procedures that have worked for most of the US population, but unfortunately not for her. About 5 years ago, she had a procedure to have a colostomy bag, this being our last move to hopefully make her healthy. She has also had many hardships of losing her hair, having to wear a wig and many skin conditions.
Lindsay has gone through many emotions and hardships that have been very upsetting to see such a young girl go through so much hurt and disappointment.
I have set up this fund because Lindsay is a senior in high school and working towards graduating. She is going to go to college soon and my parents have many, many medical bills that they have paid and are still paying because of Crohn's disease. My sister, Lindsay, has dealt with Crohn's Disease that has robbed most of her life , but I want her to go to college and put the past behind her and have a great experience in college. I am trying to save up as much money as I can for Lindsay so that she can have some money for meals and room and board at college.
Please help with what you can and if you can't help, please share our story with others and share my blog I have set up about her, my family, and facts to spread awareness of Crohn's. I will be running my first half-marathon in honor of her and her fight of Crohn's Disease. Thanks for reading!
