Wheelchair Emergency

Donation protected
You did it!! It's done!! The wheelchair has been ordered!! It should hopefully arrive on Tuesday and I'll update again then. You've all given me the best Christmas gift I could ever hope for and I'll be zooming around again in no time! Any extra money raised will go towards fixing my flat - details below.

Hi, I'm Kit. You probably know me as the dog dad of Aggie and, until recently, old man Archie. I'm the dog-crazy guy who talks too much and zooms around Leith Links in an electric wheelchair.. which just broke beyond repair.

If you have a spare £5 - £20 to put in the pot it will make a MASSIVE difference.

If you can't donate, sharing the link with a note about how you know me will make a HUGE difference as well. Facebook, Instagram, Next Door, literally ANYWHERE.

Why I need help:

The last few months have dealt me a whole lot of bad luck and the systems that are supposed to help have either ignored me, dropped the ball, or are too slow to help in a meaningful way.

Why I need my wheelchair:

I have multiple health conditions that give me symptoms including having no sensation below my knees, regularly dislocating my joints, extreme blood pressure variations that make me fall or pass out, non epileptic seizures, and extreme pain and fatigue.

My finances:

My adult disability payment has been suspended while I'm reassessed - I just need a rubber stamp on my papers that says nothing has changed since I was last assessed. But they haven’t given me a timeframe, and I'd be very surprised if it happens before January at the earliest.

I applied for a crisis grant in November to help me when I moved back into my flat (details below) and got a whopping £68. I've reapplied for help getting the wheelchair but have no guarantee they will say yes, particularly because I've had money from them so recently. Charity grants are a long-term prospect but won't fast enough help me with the wheelchair.

I can't apply for a credit card or a loan because I have no photo ID. Being trans comes with all sorts of fun extra problems like that.

I'm very much reliant on the kindness of others right now. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

My home:

Whilst I was having surgery, my housing association had to start an emergency repair in my flat. There was a huge flood UNDER my floors caused by a building wide mouse infestation. They packed up and put everything I own into storage and tore up my lovely wooden floors. I had to live at a hotel for 5 weeks whilst repairs were ongoing. And, bonus, discovered I don't have insurance - an oversight from when I was helped getting set up here after being homeless.

I've finally moved back in and the whole place is in disarray. It's dirty, my oven and hob no longer work. There's a door off its hinges. Everything I own is chaotically thrown into random huge boxes that I can't lift or get into without risking hurting myself. I don't know where most of my things are. I'm surviving on toast, instant noodles, microwave meals, and what my friends and neighbours cook.

All of this to say - I set up this GFM for a wheelchair. If by some miracle I get a grant from an official body or make more than I need, it will go towards:
  • A professional deep clean for the flat
  • An oven,
  • A hob,
  • Dry cleaning or replacing things damaged by damp and mould and mildew
I just need basics to get my living space back to somewhere I can actually live!

Thank you for reading all this. Thank you for donating or sharing. Thank you for caring.

Love, Kit and Aggie x
