Beating the Drum for Mark Barfoot

Donation protected
This is an urgent call to our Spiritual Tribe of all who know Mark Barfoot, have experienced his workshops, learned from his teaching, purchased a drum, flute or artwork, or have been the recipient of gifts from his generous heart.

At this moment he truly needs help from all of his community and loved ones. If you know him from powwows, art shows or drum workshops, he misses you all...and there is a reason you haven't seen him.

In 2016 Mark was diagnosed with MS and the disease is progressing. He is now, in the middle of a pandemic, being forced to leave his current home. A team of us are working to relocate him from Cherokee, NC to the Augusta, GA area where there will be a local community to assist with his needs and to connect him with social and medical services. This fundraiser is help Mark cover moving expenses, rent and utility costs for the months it will take for him to establish residency and connect with those services.  Also, in the near future, he will  be in need of motorized wheelchair.

In addition to helping Mark with this move -- and please know that no gift is too small -- we also invite you to play your Dreamer Drum or Wolfclan Flute, sing, pray, or dance to  open the door to healing and blessings for him in his new home and new community.

For all who give or arise to serve in this time of need, may the blessings from that action rebound upon you tenfold in your own time of need..

E. Lea Gerlach,
fundraiser administrator and part of Mark's team.

For those who may not know Mark but feel drawn to this cause, here is an excerpt from his Bio: Mark Barfoot is a Native American Indian Folk Artist and Master Drum Maker. He was born in 1952, the son of a Wolf Clan Onondaga mother and a Cherokee father. He learned the art of finger weaving at a very young age. Much of what he knows and practices is self taught, but he studied with elders from various nations to learn other mediums of Indian folk art.

His work has been sold in the Smithsonian Museum for the American Indian’s Gift Shop. It also lives in many private collections across the country including those of Bill Miller, Buffy Saint Marie, Rita Coolidge, Keith Secola, and Larry Mullen of U2. Among others who own and play his drums are Patrick Mirabel Moontee Sinquah, Rita Coolidge, Rudy Youngblood, people from the drum group Pipestone, and many other drum people, Shea Keck, Mickey Free, Irene Bedard, Matt Kramer, former lead singer from Saigon Kick, Eli Secody, the late Floyd Red Crow Westerman, Dennis Banks, and countless others.

In 1990, Mark began to offer his Native American Indian Folk Art to the public. Since that time, he has received Awards of Excellence and special recognition from fine art and craft shows and noted powwows like Schemitzun. Mark’s fine craft arts (flutes, antler sculptures, and hand made jewelry) are well known and loved by people all over the country.
