Broken Angel
UPDATE: I am still seeing the surgeon once a week for follow-up appointments. I am using a wound vac to help close the wound from the inside out. It has closed at last check from 11.5" to 9.9". We are so close to reaching our goal. Please help in any way you can. Once the wound closes I can go and be fitted for a prosthetic.
My story......I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1994, high blood pressure and end stage renal disease in 2010 which led to the start of dialysis in February 2014. I went shopping with my son the day after Thanksgiving last year and got a blister on the bottom and side of my left foot from all of the walking we did. Of course, being a diabetic, this sent me to the wound care clinic where I was told to go to the ER immediately......do not pass go and do not collect $200. Upon arrival, I was admitted and they amputated my left foot and a second surgery on Christmas Day amputated to just below my left knee. Currently, I am in rehab working hard to be allowed to return home. I am also waiting on a wheel chair and to be fitted for a prosthetic limb. There was no cost to me prior to the new year, but now I not only have a $2,500 deductible to meet, I also have a $10,000 out of pocket expense to meet before insurance covers everything at 100% rather than an 80/20 split. Any assistance you can provide would be most greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read my story.
