TJ and Shawna Blair of West Chazy, NY were on a camping trip in July 2018 when TJ fell out of the bed of a moving truck and hit his head on pavement. TJ was sent to Upstate Medical Center and had a craniotomy, as well as part of his brain removed. TJ then suffered two strokes and became completely blind. TJ spent 30 days in Syracuse in the Neuro ICU then went to acute rehab, then sub acute. In December, TJ had surgery for a crainioplasty.
Two weeks ago, TJ developed an infection and it was found that he was leaking cerebrospinal fluid and had a small bleed under his plate.
At that point, TJ was placed on comfort care.
Shawna has been traveling back and forth between TJ and their two girls, who are four and seven years old, since the accident.
TJ was the sole provider for the family as Shawna was a stay at home mom, raising their girls, and unable to work as a disabled veteran. On January 24th, TJ is expected to be transported from Kingston to CVPH in Plattsburgh to begin Hospice care and be able to pass peacefully with his girls and wife by his side. The cost to transport TJ home is about $4,500, which at this point, will most likely be an out of pocket expense for Shawna to pay. Any and all donations are appreciated to cover medical expenses, transport costs, bills, groceries, care for the girls, etc.
From Shawna:
"TJ has been on comfort care to keep him as calm and pain free as possible. As of now, the situation doesn't seem to be resolving, and it is looking increasingly likely he will pass.
He is heavily sedated, and has not had anything to eat or drink for several days. The hospital here is working on having him transferred closer to home where I can be with the girls as well as TJ.
We appreciate all the support from our family, friends & co-workers over the past months. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
