RALLY FOR ALY

Donation protected
Many of you have been following Aly’s journey, but I am going to do a quick recap of her extraordinary week.

Aly and her boyfriend, Brooke, went to a local establishment last Wednesday, June 5, 2019 for a drink.  Brooke ordered the drinks and brought them back to Aly.  Brooke turned away from Aly for a second and heard her drink crash to the floor. What Brooke had thought was laughing, was really Aly gurgling for air.  She collapsed and he immediately checked her pulse and found none. By divine intervention, there were off duty EMT’s at the bar and they began CPR before the paramedics arrived.  Aly was transported to a local hospital where it was determined that she had suffered from cardiac arrest-her heart had stopped.  Aly spent the next three days in ICU on life support in a medically induced coma with her family and friends praying for God’s grace.

Aly woke up Saturday morning and hundreds of people took a collective sigh of relief.  Aly was very confused and agitated, eventually the nurses had no other choice but to restrain her for her own safety.  She was able to recognize faces, but could not recall the events leading up to her cardiac arrest. All she wanted to do was go home.  It was an emotional day for everyone.

By Sunday, she had graduated from the ICU to a room on the cardiac floor.  She was still struggling with her short memory but was able to get up with the help of the nurse and walk.  By ten o’clock that night she was texting. Nothing short of a miracle.

Although Aly is suffering from only minimal neurological deficits, she has no memory of the week before her cardiac arrest, she will remain in the hospital for the next few days undergoing various cardiac tests so that we can determine why she had the event on Wednesday and prevent any future episodes.  She will have a heart catherization and a cardiac MRI in the next few days.  We keep hearing the word pacemaker, but nothing is definite.

Again miracle is the word filling my heart.

When Aly’s parents got that call in the middle of the night- you know—the one we all are praying never  to get- they jumped in the car and made the hour and a half drive down South.  The ICU waiting room quickly filled with family members and friends who just felt it was the right place to be.  The doctors were doing everything in their playbook to heal our girl, but we felt some comfort just being together.  Praying we had enough strength between us all to keep a brave front for Aly.

Aly and Brooke live  in Ft Myers about an hour and half South of their families in Palmetto.  Mom and Dad have taken off work indefinitely as Aly is their only concern at this moment.

Expenses add up quickly.  Jen and Joel are staying at hotel and every meal has been take out.  Aly has insurance, but there are co-pays that can become overwhelming.

Aly is a young adult with adult responsibilities.  She has all the bills that come with growing up- rent ,utilities, car, and insurance. Now she will have follow up visits with doctors and most likely be taking medications to regulate her heart.  These added expenses could really derail a young person’s budget.

When Aly woke up Sunday, her first concern was her job.  She knew she had a shift that day and wanted to be sure that her manager knew that she was not coming in.  Her manager had already been to the hospital  to visit the family and bring lunch to keep us nourished. Aly works at Hooters as a waitress, we have no clue as to when she will be able to return to work.

Let’s all  join  together and let this family focus on Aly’s recovery, not on the expenses. We can take away some of the worry and play a part in Aly’s recovery.

Follow Rally for Aly on Facebook for daily updates and see a miracle unfold.  God bless.
