In Loving Memory of Misty Stewart
It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beloved colleague, friend, and advocate, Misty Stewart. Misty’s life was defined by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring that no one facing domestic or sexual violence ever had to suffer in silence.
In 2003, after leaving an abusive relationship, Misty fled to Nevada with her three children to live with her parents. That difficult moment marked the beginning of her journey of healing and rebuilding—not only for herself and her family, but eventually for countless others across Nevada. At the time, Misty did not even know that domestic violence programs existed. That realization became a driving force behind her life’s work: making sure survivors knew that help, resources, and hope were available.
Misty dedicated more than 15 years to the field of domestic and sexual violence prevention and response. She served as Program Director at the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, where she worked tirelessly to support programs statewide through outreach, training, and survivor-centered support. She deeply believed in harm reduction, meeting people where they are, and honoring the truth that healing already exists within each person—sometimes it just takes a little support to help find it.
Above all, Misty centered her life on empowering others to live violence-free lives. Her message was clear and consistent: It is never your fault. You are never alone.
This GoFundMe has been created to support Misty’s family during this unimaginable time of sudden loss. The funds raised will help ease the financial burden they are facing as they grieve and begin to navigate life without her.
If you knew Misty, you know how fiercely she showed up for others. If you didn’t, please know that your support honors a woman who devoted her life to lifting others up and building safer, more compassionate communities.
Thank you for holding Misty’s family in your hearts, and for honoring her legacy through your generosity.
