Travis's Medical Bills

Hi, my name is Mistie Johnson. The picture you see here is of my two sons, Travis, and Zac. They are my world, and I am asking for your help.

We are setting up this GoFundMe to raise money for Travis's medical bills.

On January 11th, Travis was transported by medical helicopter from Waverly, Iowa’s ER to Iowa City, Iowa's University of Iowa Hospital's MICU. (Medicaid Intensive Care Unit) Due to, what we knew at that time to be, excruciating pain, and an Abscess/severe infection around his lungs. We have since learned the technical medical terminology of it: Acute respiratory failure with hypoxia and hypercapnia (HCC).

He was critically ill.

Travis's oxygen levels were seriously low, and he was put into a medically induced coma on a ventilation machine to breathe for him so that his lungs could rest and heal, and his body could fight the infection. He also experienced renal failure due to an antibiotic level being too high in his system. As well as having to have a chest tube placed to drain the infected fluids away from his lungs.

We hope that he is able over the next few days to come off the vent as his oxygen levels are better, he is breathing mostly on his own with small supports from the vent. His renal function has leveled off into a safer range and the infection and abscess are starting to show signs of improvement. However, he is still extremely sick. We do not know how long of a hospital stay he will have. His doctors tell me that he will need physical and respiratory therapies for quite some time after his release, not only from ICU but down the road after he is released from the hospital.

Travis has health insurance through his work, thankfully. However, the number of medical bills, (including that helicopter ride to the ICU) he will have by the time this is all over will be staggering.

I am asking for your help to raise money to offset some of the bills, worry, and stress for Travis so that he can concentrate on healing, recovery, and getting back to the happy, sarcastic, PS5-loving, guy you see on the left in the picture above.

100% of anything you donate will go to Travis to cover medical costs.
