Help Peter Fight Cancer
Donation protected
In January 2021 Peter was diagnosed with Stage 4 gastrointestinal carcinoma of unknown primary source. He’s now been through two types of chemo treatments and unfortunately his cancer has resisted both. As of June 7, 2021, his doctors say they have no additional treatment options and have given him months to live.
Peter and his wife Hui-Shurn are not ready to give up the fight, and are considering alternative methods of treatment. They are fighters and optimists, and believe they are not yet out of options.
Our hope in this fundraiser is to raise money for alternative methods of treatment (which often are not covered by insurance) to help prolong his life, and to help cover costs of their move back to California to be with his family in the next month. Funds will also go towards paying off expenses already incurred around treatment, nutrition, and pain-management/quality-of-life therapies and supplies.
Peter is an Army veteran (twice deployed to Iraq, 2004 and 2005). Prior to COVID in 2020, he had been studying for and was accepted to law school. He worked in the hospitality industry in New York for 10 years. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality and arts industries, both Peter and Hui-Shurn have been unemployed since March 2020. While both would love to return to work, Peter’s cancer treatments, and Hui-Shurn serving as his primary caregiver, have left them unable to do so.
Gentle, uncommonly generous, and loving, Peter (36) is a beloved husband, brother, son, and friend. Though quiet at first, Peter’s clever and silly sense of humor brings joy to his circle of loved ones, and neighbors. He loves food, cooking, and wine (and his knowledge on these topics is vast!). Peter loves, and misses, being of service to other people, and looks forward to when he can support those in his community in his future work as a lawyer, as well as through charitable activities.
Peter and his wife Hui-Shurn have been married since July 2018. Prior to COVID-19 and Peter’s cancer diagnosis, they were thrilled to be starting their lives together. Planning for their respective careers, a family, and looking forward to traveling back to Malaysia for a wedding celebration (and for Peter to meet Hui-Shurn’s side of the family)-- their lives have been entirely upended by his diagnosis.
Peter and Hui-Shurn are so grateful for any support you're able to offer. Any unused funds raised will be donated to a charity of Peter's choice.
With love and gratitude,
Kate Herman
