The Memory of Mary Thompson

Donation protected
When Mary Thompson was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in the Spring of this year, she had every intention of fighting it with the same intensity as her first battle 2 years ago. Her family and friends rallied behind her and offered comfort and support. Unfortunately, the cancer was too aggressive and she lost her battle on July 23, 2024.

Mary was truly a ray of sunshine to all who knew her. She made everyone feel special in her presence. Mary was selflessly devoted to her husband Tom and her 11 year old daughter Kate, who was her pride and joy. Tom and Kate were so blessed to have such a positive influence in their lives and they were happy to share her. She was also the most dedicated aunt you could find and an amazing sister, cousin and friend. She was fiercely funny and always laughing, even during her first cancer diagnosis in 2022. She remained optimistic and continued to work and volunteer her time regularly throughout her cancer treatments.

Mary was a familiar face to so many in our community. She made time to be woven into the thread of each area of Kate’s life. She was very involved in the PTA and could be found at Kate’s school most days chairing a committee or just helping out. She loved coaching softball and volleyball and was so great at building the girls up and encouraging them to reach their full potential. She cheered for every kid every time. She was a Girl Scout cookie leader, continuing to sell cookies for the troop well past cookie season. Mary never said no to an opportunity to offer her help and would give the shirt off her back to someone in need (and if you knew Mary, you know she was the Queen of clever t-shirts). She inspired her daughter Kate in so many ways - from helping at a local salon when they offer free services for breast cancer patients to decorating rocks with uplifting messages to be displayed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. We are all better for knowing Mary Thompson.

Mary was a vibrant light that brightened each path that she crossed. She loved a good party and really knew how to have fun. She organized a huge party to celebrate her and Tom’s anniversary this year and she loved throwing pool parties for Kate’s birthday each year. Mary was truly a presence and will not be forgotten. She will be remembered for her bravery as she fought with everything she had. She will be missed tremendously by many and is gone far too soon. Mary’s family is forever grateful to those who stepped in to help in their time of need. If you have the means to do so, please help us take some of the burden off of her family as they navigate life without Mary. We appreciate anything you can offer.
