Hello,
My name is Theo and I'm a transgender man who lives in Glasgow. I am raising money to pay for my Top Surgery.
As a transgender person in the UK who wants to medically transition (begin hormone replacement therapy or have gender confirming surgeries) there are services free from the NHS. These are from Gender Clinics, I live in Glasgow so I must be seen by the Sandyford Clinic. This clinic treats the entirety of Scotland. I have been on the Sandyford Clinic waiting list for two years and six months. With the impact of Covid-19 I believe I will be waiting another year to two years for an initial appointment. Once I am seen I will be placed on the Top Surgery waiting list, this will mean around another year of waiting for surgery.
Two years ago I made the decision to begin private health care for my medical transition, as I could no longer wait the extensive time to receive any support regarding my transition. To do this I sacrificed my financial stability and in turn my home, and meant that I slept on my friends pull out coach for six months. The precarious situation I found myself in proves that this was not care that I wanted but care that I needed and could not live without.
Gender dysphoria massively effects my mental and physical health everyday and I know that I cannot wait another two to three years to feel fully connected to the body I live in.
With the cost of this surgery being around £6,000 and the costs of travel and aftercare on top of this - I do not have the money after paying for my hormones/blood tests/doctors appointments to support myself and save for this surgery.
