On December 21st, my nephew, Liam (4), was rushed to the emergency room after collapsing. They determined his hemoglobin, which should be 12 or more, was only at a 3, and his platelets, which should be 120-130, were at 43. The doctors were shocked he was even conscious. He was given his first of four blood transfusions (so far) and then taken by ambulance up to the children’s hospital in Madison.

On December 22nd, he was diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Liam has a long road ahead of him. Since being diagnosed, he has endured a bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap, a PICC line insertion, and has started chemo. It has been determined that the cancer cells are premature, which is good, but they did find hidden cells floating around his brain. The doctor stated it was minimal and they are very optimistic.

As you can imagine, this is a very scary time for Liam’s family. There is a long list of unknowns. I’d like to help my sister and brother-in-law out as much as we can. They are going to incur astronomical medical bills and will be missing an unknown number of workdays.
