Coffee Bean's Leg Amputation

As many people know, my sweet Coffee has always had trouble with one of his hind legs. He was hit by a car in Mexico before being rescued, and since then his leg has been a constant source of irritation and pain. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to manage his pain, and heal the open wound that has been on his leg for the past 6 and a half years. We have used steroids, many different kinds of pain meds, anxiety meds, nerve blocking shots, laser and light therapy, etc. Unfortunately, none of these have been helpful or effective in healing his leg. We know there is underlying trauma which likely resulted in significant nerve damage as well as arthritis in his leg that is causing him to be in constant pain. He has lived the majority of his life having to wear a cone as the pain and irritation causes him to chew and lick at the wound.

After many years of ineffective pain management the next step is amputation. This is a costly procedure and one that will require significant time for Coffee to recover from. It is important to me to get this done while Coffee is still relatively young, which will hopefully allow him to recover and adapt easily. All of this is falling on a time when work is scarce, and funds are low, but my priority is for Coffee to be pain free as soon as possible. Pet insurance will not cover the surgery or any of the bloodwork, etc that needs to happen prior to the procedure, as they have deemed it a "pre-existing condition" that was present before we was in my care and covered by insurance.

Coffee is my best friend and has brought so much love and joy and laughter to my life, and I want to ensure that however many years we have left together are the best they can possibly be for him. I can't do this alone, and would be forever grateful for any donations people can make to help with these medical costs.
