A young opera student wishes to study in Italy
Donation protected
My name is Erica Hoenig and I am from Rochester NY. I am a recent graduate of the SUNY Geneseo music program. I am planning to pursue my Master's Degree in Voice and Music with the goal of becoming a professional opera and jazz singer.
I studied voice and piano through the Eastman Community Music School and continued my studies at the collegiate level. My programs at Monroe Community College and SUNY Geneseo provided education and experience in voice, drama, stage production, and instrumental variety (piano, viola, clarinet and percussion).
I have been fortunate enough to expand my performance experience beyond the collegiate level with my first opera debut in the Finger Lakes Opera production of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida as a featured choral member and with my current performances as soloist (as well as choral member) of Rochester Oratorio Society. This past February I auditioned for the prestigious opera program known as Si Parla Si Canta and was one of the first applicants to be accepted into the 2024 program. This program is an immersive three-week experience in Arona, Italy where young singers and experienced professionals work with vocal teachers, coaches, and physiotherapist to further prepare singers for opera studies at the grad school level as well as a future in opera. In addition to intensive vocal training, I will be taking Italian lessons at the Dante Alighieri Institute and performing my repertoire in various concerts around Italy.
Due to the financial struggles that came with the tragic death of my father at 18 years old impacting myself as well as my family financially, I know that my travel and study in Italy is going to be a huge expense, but one that is very much worth it for achieving my musical goals. I am hosting a benefits recital to raise money for this trip at Mother of Sorrows Church on May 19th at 1pm, but every donation is helpful at this time. The money raised will be used for textbook fees, housing, food, necessities, tuition, and travel fees I may incur embarking on this once in a lifetime opportunity. Any donation is much appreciated and know that it will help a young student prepare to further her music education and help her be one step closer to achieving her musical goals.
Below are some links to videos on my YouTube channel to a few of my recital and vocal studio performances if you would like to get a feel for what my performances are all about!!
