Support for April's Journey
Donation protected
In 2021, a young mum (April) was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. At the time, she was breastfeeding her youngest daughter and thought the pain and swelling in her breast was mastitis. After a hospital visit, the unthinkable happened. She was handed a diagnosis for a rare and incurable form of breast cancer. No cure, just treatment to try and prolong her life.
April continues to receive regular chemotherapy treatment. It has become increasingly difficult for her to work. The side effects are debilitating. She is determined to extend her life as much as possible and is thankful for the treatment, despite the shocking and relentless nausea and brain fog that go with it. Her pain levels are often extreme. Over time, the regular parts of her job, things like taking photos at a swimming carnival for a couple of hours, have become terribly painful and can see her in bed for days unable to get up and move around. You see, the cancer is in her bones.
April doesn’t know how long she has left to live. She is praying for a miracle. We all are.
April is stoic, strong, and very determined, but she is no longer able to work. She
has kept on as long as she can without complaining. There is a better way for her to spend the time she has left.
This fund is designed to help April make the best use of the time she does have, to spend as many precious hours and days as possible at home with her family and to get the rest she needs.
Her beautiful little daughters are 4 and 6. They need their Mum.
I have job shared with April for over a year and have witnessed her courage and tenacity. I have witnessed her deteriorate as the pain, nausea and brain fog overtake her. I have wanted to start this fund for almost a year. April has resisted. She finds it hard to ask for help. I know there are many wonderful people out there who would like to support her.
I am inviting you to support April as she leaves her job. If you can contribute to this fund, either as a one-off donor or someone who can make regular small donations, you will be helping April to be at home with her family.
Together, we can make a real difference to April and give her precious time with her family.
