Poets need time and support to write, and finishing an ongoing project for a deadline requires extra time and clear-headed focus. This campaign aims to raise funds that will allow Sade to finish their new book of poems, I Love You and I'm Not Dead, which needs to be completed by April, 2019.
Your support will give Sade a three month Writing Residency, where they can write at home, in their chosen work space, and finish the new book. Funds will be used solely to pay Sade's basic living expenses--rent, utilities, groceries.
Sade LaNay is a brilliant and necessary new voice in American poetry. They have published three books of poetry, and their work has appeared in several anthologies including the first two volumes of Bettering American Poetry, as well as being featured in the upcoming Best American Experimental Writing 2020.
The unfinished manuscript, I Love You and I'm Not Dead, measures, with precision and fearless honesty, the distance between black queer femme subjectivity and the forces that oppress “her,” between wild linguistic experimentation and the urgency of direct statement, and finally, between our heavenly constellations and the rituals of daily life. You can read an insightful commentary on one of the poems here .
We need this new book by Sade in the world, and your support can make it happen! Please give what you can, at any time from now until the end of April, and everyone who gives $20 or more will receive a signed copy of the book when it appears in the Fall of 2019.
Thank You!
