Support a Survivor of Domestic Abuse

We are raising money to help an incredible young woman who came to New England at the age of 18 as an orphaned refugee. After rebuilding her life in New England by finishing school, working multiple jobs, and actively engaging in her community helping others (including helping new refugees as they arrived to her community), she moved to another state to get married.. She knew no one else in the community she moved to aside from her new husband. Now a year and a half later, she is living in a shelter with her infant son as a result of the severe domestic abuse she endured within her own home.

The situation she faces would be difficult for anyone, but imagine being a young refugee from a war-torn country, going to school, working and caring for your baby while living in a shelter.

Imagine your abuser stealing all of the money that you had carefully saved over many years.

Imagine being in fear for your life at all times.

Imagine knowing that you have to keep your job in order to qualify for housing and you have to stay in school in order to build a future where you will have a chance to get a job that can support you…all while fighting for custody for and caring for your newborn.

Imagine on top of all this, trying to navigate the legal system in order to keep your baby safe, healthy, and housed.

Despite a life history few of us can imagine and the tragedy she faced of losing her parents in a war torn country as a 6 year old, her generosity of spirit and drive to build a life for herself and her son is incredibly inspiring. ALL of her saved money and belongings were taken by her abuser.

WE ARE HOPING TO RAISE FUNDS TO ASSIST HER WITH BASIC NEEDS (clothing, medicine, food), as well as money to help with legal funds and support. The ultimate goal once all the legal matters are settled, is to help her to move to another state where she will be safe and will live near friends who can help support her emotionally as she rebuilds her life, yet again.

Any amount you donate will make a huge impact in helping a beautiful young woman who deserves a chance at a peaceful existence and an opportunity to raise her son without fear for his or her safety. Her life story is one that is filled with tragedy, as well as hard work and our hope is that the next chapter will be filled with peace, happiness, and freedom from abuse.
