A wish for Skylar
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Angela! Jessie, Alicia and Skylar are like a second family to us! Skylar is my daughter’s bff.
Sklyar was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in November of this year.
Ulcerative colitis (IBD-Inflammatory Bowel Disease) is a chronic disease of the large intestine, in which the lining of the colon becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers. This condition is the result of your immune system’s overactive response. Every person's journey is different. Unfortunately, Skylar has endured many hospital visits, procedures and treatments. Which will continue into her future. On a daily basis she deals with many side effects such as abdominal pain, bathroom frequency, weight loss, fatigue, blood loss, etc. The effects of this diagnosis on her day-to-day life are missing many days of school, loss of friends and connections, feeling sad/alone, self-conscious and feelings of depression.
The reason why Skylar would like to attend Camp Oasis, located in Georgia, is because all of the campers (and many of the adults) at the camp are living with IBD. This supportive community allows the attendees to see that they are not alone, try all sorts of new activities, create friendships with people who understand them, gain confidence and independence, and just put aside their troubles, and just be a kid!
We are raising this money so Skylar can attend this camp and feel like a kid again. Alicia and Jessie plan and need to stay close to the camp should Skylar need assistance. Due to all of the traveling and medical bills, money is really tight for their family. This opportunity will help Skylar gain her independence and raise her confidence as she navigates this new lifestyle.
All donations will go to the family to cover the cost of:
-Camp Oasis 5-day camp
-For Alicia and Jessie to be close by to Skylar as learns to embrace this new challenge.
Being a kid is hard! Being a kid with autoimmune disease that others can't see is hard and lonely. Poop is something a 10-year-old doesn't want to talk about with their friends to explain why they feel the way they do. Please donate so Skylar can have a chance to be around others that know how she feels without her having to explain herself. Thank you for considering donating to this amazing family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers are they continue this journey.
