Initial Fundraising Story:
Thanks for watching the video! Here is my side of the story, and why I need your help to make this all happen for Rose.
My name is Michael and I have been letting my hair grow out for the past 18 months. In September, I went for a trim and my barber Kim mentioned that my hair was long enough to consider donating it.
This was the first time in my life that I thought about the need for hair as a resource, and after a few questions to understand what and why hair donations exist, I skipped the trim and left continuing to let my hair grow, so I could donate it to a person in need.
A research process began, and as a father of a teenage girl, it was very challenging to research the reasons why hair donations are needed, and the costs associated with the process.
I found out about a local company in Perth, The Australian Wig Company, which works with charities to help local children obtain quality wigs, as the cost is simply not an option for many families, and this company helps connect those families with grants to help cover costs, to obtain a better-quality wig. These grants do have limits and can take time, so I asked how many children are currently in need.
There are 12 Perth children currently need assistance, by fundraising for the monetary cost, of having my hair made into a wig, for the young girl in the video, who has endured many surgeries and somehow manages to stay so positive, it is inspiring to see.
I cannot pay the $4100 myself to have my hair made into a wig for her, so, please consider, if you are able, donating a manageable sum to help my hair become a wonderful gift this Christmas, for this remarkable and so deserving, thirteen-year-old girl named Rose.
Should this fundraising effort exceed the target, all additional money will go towards a second wig, for another one of the 12 children waiting for financial support.
If you do not have the capacity to donate but would like to help, please do pass this on to friends and family. $4100 is a lot of money for one family but spread over a community or a country, it is far more achievable.
If you have uncolored hair over 25cm long, of any color, please consider donating it and if you are sure of your decision, I suggest reaching out to Sharryn and her team via https://www.australianwigcompany.com.au/contact/
