This is our daughter, Jordyn. She is a smart, beautiful, caring, giving 16 year old. She was born with Cerebral Palsy and is wheelchair dependent. She is affected by CP physically (legs) and unable to walk. She may never walk. Her power wheelchair is her independence/her legs. As much as we try to keep her life as typical as possible, she has a lot of obsticles that prevent that from happening. This, in return, causes her a lot of anxiety and depression.

Two months ago we were involved in a car accident in our modified wheelchair van that we use to transport Jordyn. It was modified with a wheelchair ramp, tie-down straps to secure the chair in the van, hand controls for when she gets her license and would be able to drive the van herself. After the accident the van was totalled by the insurance company. We also learned that we did not have the van properly insured. The $20,000+ in modifications that had been done to the van were not covered by insurance. We received nothing for those modifications and given what a standard vehicle would be worth. These vans are extremely expensive and very important to a handicapped individual dependent on their wheelchair. We have now gone back to transporting Jordyn in her manual wheelchair that folds down and we can transport in the trunk of the car. She can no longer independently move throughout a store, park, hospital or out with friends without being pushed in the manual chair. This has affected her quality of life. She is back to being dependent on others. School starts in a week and she will be riding a school bus that is able to transport her power chair. In the past I have used my lunch hour at work to pick Jordyn up from school because, depending on the bus drivers route, she would be stuck in the extremely hot bus for over an hour after being in a very hot, un-airconditioned school, before getting home. It breaks my heart and she doesn't deserve any of this.

Medical insurance does not help with the expense of any form of handicapped transportation. We now have a huge goal that we know we cannot accomplish alone. We are humbly reaching out and asking for help to aquire a van to safely transport Jordyn and one that she will be able to drive herself. She is old enough to get her license and gain that independence she so deserves. It is important to have reliable transportation for her doctors appointments, physical therapy, college classes and just the freedom to hang out with friends as so many other "typical" teenager do.
If you can give a little we would greatly appreciate it. If you can’t we completely understand. Thank you in advance for whatever you can give. If able, please share on your page. Thank you!!
