A week in the mountains - well virtually
For those of you that know me, you’ll know the last 3 years have been quite an adventure. In February 2019 a culmination of events and realisations resulted in me making a significant lifestyle change and the introduction of Myzone gave me a way to compete. 12 months later and 10 stone lighter and I was ready to take on the world – then Covid hit. I continued my exercise plan and gave myself new targets and completed 2 virtual marathons during lockdown – but I always wanted to use my new found energy for a greater good. This month completes my 3 year journey and I continue to break my own records – hitting over a years worth of Myzone MEPs in January as a new highlight and I have finally joined a gym!
So all that remains is a way to give back and that’s where the serious side of this begins. A few months ago one of my customers at work suffered a terrible double loss within days of each tragedy and whilst we all suffer losses, to have changed your entire life to support others and to suddenly loose such close people is something no one can go through without needing the support of others. I have therefore decided to compete in a virtual bike ride in March where I will get to cycle up Mont Ventoux 3 times in a week and for those of you who know your sports you will know that Mont Ventoux is the scene of one of the most gruelling climbs in the Tour de France bicycle race, which has ascended the mountain eighteen times since 1951.
The final part is where you all come in - I reached out to my customer and asked him to nominate the charity and he was happy to suggest the Matt Hampson Foundation – and having read up on this during the weekend I am more than happy to support such a great organisation. The Matt Hampson Foundation is built to provide advice, support and relief for anyone suffering serious injury or disability which has arisen from any cause, but in particular from participation in or training for any sport, sporting activity or other form of physical education or recreation. Matt himself is a former rugby union prop who became paralysed from the neck down after a scrummaging accident when practising with England under 21s and his condition requires permanent use of a ventilator to breathe. https://www.matthampsonfoundation.org/
Please help me by donating anything you can and I thank you in advance
