A Walk of Gratitude: Saving the School That Saved Me

Donation protected
In 1964, as an orphaned child, I was carried to Dr Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong. The school gave me a family, an education, and a future. Now, 60 years later, I am walking in gratitude — and in hope. Gratitude for what was given to me, and hope that this school, which has shaped generations of children, can be saved for the next 125 years.

Why I’m Walking
This walk, from Darjeeling to Kalimpong, is my way of giving back. It is a walk of gratitude to the founders, teachers, mentors, and friends who changed my life. It is also a walk of remembrance for those who didn’t make it — like my sponsored student Tenzin Choetso, who passed away too young at the age of 14 from leukaemia due to lack of medical supervision.

Most of all, it is a walk of peace. My walk will end at the school church, a place of reflection and hope, as I call on all of us to help secure the future of Dr Graham’s Homes.

Why Now
This year marks the school’s 125th anniversary. For over a century, Dr Graham’s Homes has been a lifeline for underprivileged children across India and the Himalayas. But today, the school and its hospital are struggling to survive. Without urgent support, the doors that once opened for me (and for thousands of others) may not remain open for the next generation.

What Your Support Means
We are raising £10,000 to support Dr Graham’s Homes, to help keep its hospital running, and to give underprivileged children a chance at the future they deserve. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
• £10 could help provide basic supplies for the school.
• £50 could help keep medical support running at the hospital.
• £100 could go toward the care and education of a child in need.

Join Me
This walk is not only my story. It is our story. It is the story of everyone who has ever passed through Dr Graham’s Homes, and of all who believe in giving children the chance to grow, learn, and thrive.
