A vital cat sanctuary on the Greek island of Rhodes

After 8 years of living in Greece I am now back in my home country of the UK but I still feel very connected to the very special but insecure KALITHEA CATS. Around 150 local strays owe their survival to this amazing place where they can get food, medical treatment, shelter and unconditional love.
Without upsetting any locals, I don't think it would be unfair to make the general statement that cat suffering does not feature highly as a concern for the majority of people in Greece. It's hard to fathom this cultural difference but the result is a bad experience and short life for most street cats. If you have ever been to Greece you will have seen there are literally thousands of these poor souls around and about, begging for food and living lives unlike the comfortable ones given to their counterparts who are lucky enough to have loving homes.
Kalithea Cats is staffed by volunteer expats and funded largely by tourists. Despite the generosity (both of time and money), a crisis point has been reached this year with more kittens arriving than ever who need neutering to try to control future need but also all the normal things for their basic needs. Put simply, this angel-sent organisation just can't continue without donations right now and my heart breaks to think of the fate of the 150 furry babies who rely on it.
I had a pleasure of working there myself for several months before I left Rhodes and I saw for myself how the necessity of asking for help never ends but how neutering before more kittens can be born is the only practical way to rein this in even a little.
Cats can have up to three litters of roughly between 4 to 8 kittens per year so that could be almost ONE HUNDRED in a four-year period. The mind boggles as to the cost of food and medicine of all these hundred little mites.
I am therefore setting a target of £1000 which would enable Kalithea Cats to neuter around 35 kitties. Please give as little or as much as you can and feel free to contact me with any queries about where the money would be going. I will also update the page with info too.

Much much more information can be read on this Facebook page too...
